In the event that a flowmeter isn't functioning properly, installation of a new meter may be required. Follow these easy steps!
Before you proceed, ensure that the flowmeter needs to be replaced rather than reset. See how to reset a flowmeter here. The flowmeter is one of the key components in capturing pour data, that’s why it's important to make sure that for every tap you have a working meter. Flowmeters may need to be replaced due to corrosion, water/condensation build-up, or a chip malfunction. Whatever the cause may be, BeerBoard can quickly ship out a new flowmeter which can be easily installed with a few steps.
Some items you want to have on hand:
- pliers
- flathead screwdriver
- a rag
- a bucket or container
First, go to your cooler and locate the flowmeter. This can be achieved simply by finding the tap hose and following it until you see the device.
Shut off the keg.
It is strongly recommended that you adequately drain any residual beer and pressure in the line using the bucket to avoid an unnecessary mess.
Once there is little to no beer and pressure remaining, use a flat head to pop the tab and remove the wired white clip from the main housing unit.
This housing unit is attached to the chip and should not be removed as seen below. If this occurs, ensure that these are disconnected so that the wire clip can connect to the new meter's housing unit.
Once removed, use the pliers to grip and pull up the two metal clips attached to the tailpiece, located on each end of the meter.
Set the clips and pliers aside. Grab one of the tailpieces and the meter, pulling them apart. This may take some force as the tailpiece connects to the meter using two ridged o-rings.
Repeat for the other side.
Set the old meter aside. Grab your new flowmeter and push in the tailpiece to each end.
You’ll hear the o ring click into place.
Reapply the clips to each end.
Then, reconnect the wired white clip back to the housing unit on the chip in the flowmeter. Loop the wire on the clip, located on the side of the meter.
Great job! You've installed a new flowmeter. Check that your BevBox is picking up your new flowmeter. Consider doing an isolated pour test.
